OA contracts approved
Development Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announced on Wednesday that the Interministerial Privatisation Committee, that convened in the afternoon, approved contracts on the privatisation of the two out of the three companies related to Olympic Airlines, Flight Work and Technical Base, while speaking at the end of the session.
The Committee decided officially that the contracts, when completed, since negotiations on the third company, Land Service, will continue until Friday afternoon, will be forwarded to Parliament for ratification.
The minister explained that negotiations regarding the Land Service company with Swissport are under way and if there is no positive result by Friday afternoon this company will also be purchased by MIG, which has committed itself for such and eventuality.
“Today, we have concluded a long and difficult 18-month course. It is not by chance that this course is concluding positively,” the minister said, adding that the companies no longer have the burdens and debts of the past that had discouraged investors in the previous privatisation efforts.
Hatzidakis also stressed that employees are fully safeguarded with a special law that covers them with backing for their pensioning right by a number of work stamps and, even more, by a transfer to other services in the public sector, while all employees are covered absolutely with no decrease in their income.
