Olympic Air Receives Plane

MIG wants to give Olympic Air the youngest aircraft fleet in SE Europe.

The first Q400 turboprop in the new company΄s colors has been delivered while 8 more new planes of the same type of total value of 224 mil. euro are to be delivered until the October 1st.

These planes will be used for internal routes and mostly non-profit lines, gradually replacing the ATR 40 and ATR 70 used today by Olympic Airlines.

Furthermore, Olympic Air has taken options on an additional eight Q400 NextGen airliners bringing the total value of the firm order contract to $468 million US if the eight options are exercised.

Olympic Air also intends to acquire Airbus A 319/320 planes. According to information the company plans to lease 14 such planes, gradually replacing Olympic Airways΄ Boeing 737.

As far the network is concerned, Olympic Air prepares a gradual expansion aiming to cover Balkan capital as as well as central and western Europe. New York may become a code share destination with Delta while this may also be the case for Canada and South Africa routes.

Olympic Air will take over Olympic Airways on 1st October while it is obliged, under the relevant agreement, to cover 65% of Olympic Airways current flight operations.
